History

PLC Background: Empowering the Deaf Community for a Better Future

Progressive Life Center (PLC) was founded in 2015 with a strong commitment to empowering the deaf community in India. The organization was established by Shalmon and Kirti Dongre, who dedicated their careers to the development of deaf children, youngsters, and families.

The journey of PLC began when Shalmon worked as an administrator and Kirti as a sign language interpreter at a deaf organization in Pune. In 2011, they moved to Aurangabad and witnessed the lack of opportunities and support for disabled and deaf individuals in the region. Motivated by their desire to make a difference, they started conducting workshops and training sessions to address these challenges.

PLC operates based on core values such as inclusivity, equality, and respect for the deaf culture. The organization is driven by the belief that every deaf individual has the right to equal opportunities, access to education, and the ability to lead a self-reliant life.

Through their dedicated efforts and the support of staff, volunteers, and donors, PLC continues to make a significant impact in the lives of deaf individuals and their families. The organization remains committed to providing holistic support, fostering personal and professional growth, and advocating for the rights of the deaf community.

Overall, PLC’s background is a testament to its unwavering commitment to transform the lives of deaf individuals, promote their integration into society, and create a more inclusive and accessible world for all.
